Cardboard Box City - Coming Friday, October 16-17, 2009
As the leaves begin to turn colors in the Inland Northwest, not everyone looks fondly at the beautiful display. Families who are facing homelessness this winter see this as a grim reminder of the bitter cold days ahead.
Sleeping outside in inadequate shelter is not something FPNI would wish on anyone. However, there is an evening scheduled next month in which we encourage just that. It's the Cardboard Box City, and it is coming to our area as a fund and awareness-raising event to benefit Family Promise of North Idaho. Here are the details:
WHEN: Friday, October 16, - Saturday, October 17, 2009
WHO: Open to the public, participants bring a cardboard box (self-decorated for glory and prizes) and a minimum of $75 in donations for FPNI. DOWNLOAD A PARTICIPANT PACKET HERE or pick up at participating sponsors.
HOW: Stay overnight in your box while listening to live music, a program on homeless awareness and more. Set up from 5 - 7 p.m., LIVE MUSIC & Program from 6 - 9 p.m. Pancake breakfast served for participants.
WHY: Raise awareness of the plight of our homeless and generate funds to help Family Promise continue to help families get back on their feet.
GET STARTED TODAY: Prizes will be given for the most money raised (both as an individual and as a group) for FPNI as well as most creative design of cardboard box.
